Glaucoma is one of the leading cause of blindness in Sri Lanka. It occurs when the pressure inside the eye rises, damaging the optic nerve, and causing vision loss. The condition often develops over many years without causing pain or other noticeable symptoms – so you may not experience vision loss until the disease has progressed.
Family history, past eye injury, Steroid usage for long time, Diabetes, Hypertension, Uveitis, Impaired blood flow to the head region, Blood loss, Major surgeries, Sickness- increases the risk of developing glaucoma.
Glaucoma can be managed with eye drops, lasers or surgery at Panora Eye Hospital.
